Tussey Mountain was the start of this years 50 mile marathon known as the Stoopid 50. Mike Funk, Janice Morris and I rolled up the dirt road with the pack of some 180+ riders for a very informal start.
Along with being in one of the prettiest areas of Pennsylvania, this race has some of the sweetest singletrack that can be found anywhere. This years race was set up a little differently than previous years with a good bit of double track and dirt road mixed in with some gnarly singletrack and something like 6500 feet of climbing.
Mike F. had a solid day finishing in 5:07 for 4th in the Masters catagory. Janice was on the bike for 6:28 after missing a turn and backtracking, costing her an additional hour. She still finished 1st Master Female and 7th Woman Overall. The first singletrack section was about 8 miles along the ridge. After a trip over the handlebars at around the 7 mile mark I settled into a long day in the saddle finishing in 4:50 and 18th overall.
