Race Report: Greenbrier

Severe thunder storms passing through the area Saturday night made for a muddy Greenbrier race on Sunday. Most of the course held up fairly well besides a few large mud holes along the course and a stream flowing down the final descent. The Greenbrier race serves as the Maryland State Championships and a qualifier for nationals, with the top 15 in each class qualifying. The Mountain Side Team started the day with Sally and Janice taking a one two finish in in the women's marathon race. They both completed 6 laps in the muddy conditions.

Next to leave the start line was Andy in his first semi-pro race. Mud got the best of Andy's brakes but he managed to hang on for a 14th place finish and a qualification for nationals.

Following the semi-pros was Taylor and I racing in expert 19-29, I felt really good during the race riding in first up until the last lap when I was pressured from behind by a rider from NC. I managed to keep him in check on the climbs and descents but he had more left in the tank when it came to the flats. Allowing him to pull 10 seconds on me by the finish. Taylor also had a strong race finishing 12th.

Mike Laub and Mike Funk took off next in a very competitive Expert Master race. Both rode well with Mike Laub making it on to the podium with a 5th place finish and Mike Funk qualifying for nationals in 14th.

The day finished with the team meeting up for some socializing and some very good grilled
chicken and mushrooms. The next race on the calender for Mountainside will be the Michaux Maximus race this Sunday.
